Yoga postures of the throat chakra

Yoga postures of the throat chakra

The throat chakra is your communication center, allowing you to shape your reality by expressing your ideas and desires.

The fifth chakra, or Vishuddha in Sanskrit, gives you the ability to speak the truth from a place of integrity and authenticity. Its color is light blue (tuquoise) and it is located in the middle of the throat.

When your throat chakra is open and healthy, you begin to live an authentic life, keeping your word with integrity and saying what you feel.

So what are the benefits of yoga for your throat chakra?

Adding yoga to your daily routine is a perfect way to relax and align all the chakras in your body.

There are many yoga postures (asanas), which can be used for individual chakras, but keep in mind that ultimately they will bring many benefits to your body as a whole.

Yoga is a great way to work the throat chakra, as certain physical postures (asanas) will allow you to open your shoulders and release tension in your neck.

Yoga also improves the circulation of oxygen in your body, as most yoga exercises involve working with your breathing.

Here are some of my favorite yoga poses for the fifth chakra:

Neck stretches

Neck stretches are great warm-up exercises before your yoga session because they reduce tension in your upper back, neck, and jaw. Each of these areas can hold enormous amounts of stress and requires daily stretching.

Roaring Lion Pose - Simhasana

The Roaring Lion Pose may seem a little strange at first glance and evokes a feeling of lightness and playfulness. This ridiculous-looking posture is often said to improve the voice, diminish facial and neck wrinkles, benefit the thyroid gland, and reduce tension in the upper body.

The Roaring Lion Posture imitates the boldness of the king of the jungle and evokes the vibrant spirit of this animal. In a yoga class, you will most likely learn how to combine this asana (physical posture) with a breathing technique called pranayama (lion's breathing) to create the ultimate throat chakra cleansing experience.

Candlelight pose | Salamba Sarvangasana

If you are new to yoga, you may not be ready to do some of the inverted positions. You can probably start with Sarvangasana - a posture that beginners can master gradually and comfortably.

Supported shoulder pose primarily works on your neck, shoulders, and back. This is an inversion posture, which transfers more blood to the upper body.

Shoulder pose is especially helpful for people whose throat chakra is overactive (symptoms include excessive speaking, difficulty concentrating or listening, and stuttering).

This posture is relaxing, and it can be performed at the end of the yoga practice.

Plow pose - Halasana

Plow pose is another great inversion yoga pose that supports the back, shoulders and neck, and stimulates the nervous system.

Plow Pose has a calming effect, and is usually performed at the end of a yoga session, before Corpse Pose (Savasana) and meditation.

Many experienced yoga practitioners advise placing the blanket under the shoulders to give the neck more space and allow for a straight spine.

Halasana can help relieve back pain and combat headaches, sinusitis and insomnia by bringing more blood to the neck and head area.

Cat-Cow Pose - Bitilasana Marjaryasana

The Cat-Cow Pose is a fundamental pose of yoga. It consists of moving from a position where the back is rounded to an arched position.

Each movement is performed by inhaling or exhaling air, making it a simple vinyasa, where you can link the breath to the movement of your body.

Cat and Cow Pose stretches your entire spine and involves a slight stretch of your neck as you move your head up and down (very beneficial for the throat chakra center). This is one of the poses that allows you, almost immediately, to find freedom in the body!

Bridge Pose – Setu Bandhasana

This is a light inversion pose, calming your brain and nervous system and giving your neck, chest and back of your body a good stretch.

This pose can be used as preparation for deeper backbends or as a restorative pose practiced with a yoga block.

Lie on your back, bend your knees and place your arms straight, palms down.

Begin to sink your feet into the ground without lifting your body and imagine that the energy of the earth is flowing through your legs, making them strong and strong.

Keep your legs firmly planted on the floor, take a deep breath and begin to lift your body, pressing your chest upward.

If you already have some yoga experience, place your hands under your back and bring your shoulders together.

Feel the strong support of your legs and maintain this posture for at least 3 breathing cycles.
